A FAMILY OF NORMAL GREENS

2001 rung Dark Green cock

The 2001 rung Dark Green cock was an excellent bird with plenty of width but let down as a show bird through being slightly flecked. It bred a number of good birds, but was not a prolific breeder.

This bird was paired to a Light Green hen that was bred from a family of greens that was always very clean on the head and produced the 2002 rung Light Green cock that was a very clean showy bird.

The following year, this 2002 rung Light Green cock was paired to a Dark Green that was a daughter of the 2001 rung cock and bred very well, but sadly, the best youngster, the 2003 rung Dark Green cock again displayed some flecking.

This bird was then paired back into the line of greens that was always very clean and produced a few very good hens, the best one being the 2004 rung Dark Green. This hen was a good quality bird in all areas and did quite well on the show bench.

After the experience of producing a few chicks that carried some degree of flecking, I decided to concentrate on putting the good young Dark Greens back into the clean line and in doing so, bred quite a few superb quality Light Green hens including the 2005 rung Light Green hen pictured. This was another hen that did well on the show bench.

The following year, this hen was paired to a really good quality Light Green cock that produced a number of decent quality birds, including the 2006 rung Light Green cock in the pictures. This bird was only shown once, when it came second in a very big class of young Light Green cocks at the BS Club Show.

This year, this cock has been paired back to its mother’s sister (an auntie to nephew pairing) and so far has produced a few youngsters, one of which is the promising looking 2007 rung Light green hen.
